Cavaliers 2-0 to open season

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 11-ranked Johnson County Community College men's basketball team opened its 2021-22 season with pair of victories last week. They blasted Washburn University JV 104-28 in the season opener Nov. 1, and followed with a 92-63 win over Kansas Wesleyan JV on Nov. 3. 

In the victory over Washburn JV, All-American Jaland Whitehead added another double-double to his career total, leading the Cavaliers with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He was 9-of-11 from the floor. 

Tymer Jackson followed with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. He was 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. 

Korey Jones and Zion Buckner also finished in double figures with 10 points each. 

Whitehead again was JCCC's top player in the win over Kansas Wesleyan, finishing with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Including Whitehead, six JCCC players finished in double digit scoring. 

Seth Chargois poured in 13 points and had five rebounds. Desi Williams, last season's KJCCC D-II Freshman of the Year, registered 12 points, seven boards, three assists and five steals.  Jackson and Cory Davila each had 11 points and Damond Daniels finished with 10.

JCCC will host Baker University JV on November 9 at 7 p.m.
