JCCC outlasts Highland 63-52 to remain undefeated

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – No. 2 Johnson County Community College overcame a poor shooting performance and a foul marred game to earn a tough 63-52 win on the road over Highland Community College at Ben Allen Field House. With the victory, the Cavaliers remained unbeaten at 19-0 and 4-0 in conference play. Highland fell to 12-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. 

Neither team shot well from the field for the game. JCCC hit 36 percent of its shots, while holding the Scotties to just 30 percent overall, and 23 percent from behind the 3-point line. 

Johnson County had only two players finish in double figures led by freshman guard Tymer Jackson led JCCC with 16 points and nine rebounds. Desi Williams was close behind with 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. 

Other key efforts were turned by Jaland Whitehead (7 points, 8 rebounds,4 blocks); Seth Chargois (7 points); Korey Jones (6 points, 3 rebounds) and Bing Huang (6 points, 2 rebounds) 

Zyon Smith was the only Scotties player to reach double figures, finishing with 11 points. 

Johnson County will look to remain perfect when they host Neosho County Community College on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Panthers are 8-10 on the season but stand 0-5 in conference play.  The Cavaliers own just an eight-game edge (51-43) in the all-time series, but Neosho County comes into the contest having won 10 straight in the series. The last time the met was January 14, 2015, a 90-69 Panthers victory at JCCC.
