Whitehead and Jackson power Cavaliers to 74-61 win at Neosho

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The inside-out combination of forward Jaland Whitehead and guard Tymer Jackson combined for 43 points in Johnson County's 74-61 win at Neosho County Saturday afternoon.

Whitehead was dominating. He recorded his 16th double-double of the season, and 29th of his career at JCCC with 21 points and 20 rebounds. His 20-rebound performance ties the fourth-best in program history. Whitehead was 9-of-17 from the floor, and 3-of-6 at the free throw line. He also had three steals, two assists and two blocks. 

Jackson was the top scorer in the game with 23 points. He was 7-of-14 from the field, 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 6-of-7 at the line. He also three assists, three rebounds and two steals. 

Head coach Rand Chappell also got solid performances from guard Seth Chargois and forward Xavier Kahube. Chargois finished with nine points, seven boards and two assists. Kahube also had nine points along with five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. 

Micah Jones led Neosho County with 21 points. 

The No. 5-ranked Cavaliers (26-1/ 11-1) have two games remaining in the regular season, both against No. 17-ranked Allen Community College (22-5/11-1). They travel to Iola, Kan., Monday, February 21 and return home to host the Red Devils on Thursday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. JCCC needs only one victory to earn a share of the conference title with Allen. A sweep would give the Cavaliers the championship outright.
