Last second shot waved off as JCCC men’s basketball fall in the Region final to Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – A game-tying basket by Korey Jones as the clock expired was off and the Cavaliers lost its bid to return to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament as Allen prevailed 74-72 on Saturday afternoon at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina, Kan.

Playing its first season at the D-II level, Allen will make its first ever trip to the National Tournament and will represent the Plains District in Danville, Ill., March 15-19. 

With six seconds remaining, the Red Devils Cedric Rollerson made the first of a two free throws to put his team up two.  JCCC freshman guard Tymer Jackson grabbed the rebound after he missed his second attempt, drove up the floor and launched a 3-point shot that was off the mark. Jones made the tip-in but it after the buzzer sounded, and the Cavaliers season came to an end. 

Johnson County freshman guard Desi Williams had the best game of his college career, finishing with 36 points, outdueling the Red Devils Ed Wright by two points. Williams made 13-of-19 shots and was 10-of-15 at the free throw line. He also had four steals and three rounds 

Jackson followed with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals. They were the only Cavaliers to finish in double figures. 

Wright hit 8-of-18 shots, including four 3-pointers, and was 14-of-16 at the charity stripe. He also grabbed seven boards.

Johnson County finishes the 2021-22 season 28-4 and ranked fourth in the final NJCAA D-II Poll.
