JCCC men’s basketball captures KJCCC D-II regular season title with win at Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – It came down to the final game of the regular season to determine the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Division II champion, and Johnson County claimed the title by defeating Allen 67-53 on Wednesday night in Iola, Kan. It is the seventh conference title in JCCC men's basketball history and second in the three-year tenure of head coach Rand Chappell. 

With the victory, the Cavaliers improved to 23-7 for the season and 11-3 against conference opponents and assures JCCC the No. 1 seed in the Region VI/Plains District Tournament the opens on Monday, March 6.  The Red Devils fall to 21-9 and to second place in the KJCCC with a 10-4 mark. 

Three Cavaliers scored in double figures led by sophomore forward Ryan Gordon with 19. He was 7-of-15 shooting and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also led the team with nine rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore guard Tymer Jackson followed with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, and sophomore guard Desi Williams added 10 points five boards and three assists. 

Ahmed Mahgoub led Allen with 16 points and nine rebounds. He was the only Red Devil to poist double figures.

Johnson County will host Neosho County on Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m., in the first round of the Region VI/Plains District Tournament. The Cavaliers handed the Panthers its second largest defeat in the series history with JCCC last Saturday, 90-48.
