JCCC’s shooting woes leads to first round loss at national tournament

DANVILLE, Ill – Johnson County recorded its worst shooting performance of the season and had its lowest point total in NJCAA D-II Tournament history, falling to host Danville Area 67-46 in the first round of the tournament in Danville, Ill. The Cavaliers shot just 22. 6 percent (7-for-31) overall and 1-for-9 from 3-point range which allowed the Jaguars to jump out to a 35-19 lead at the break. 

With the loss, Johnson County falls to the consolation bracket and will face No. 5 seed Iowa Central who was upset by 12 seed Waubonsee 70-64.  The Lakers defeated the Cavaliers earlier this season in Overland Park, 77-76. The tip is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Thursday, March 23.

JCCC sophomore guard Tymer Jackson, the team's leading scorer, finished with 11 points, nine below his season average.

Sophomore guard Desi Williams was the only other Cavalier to post double digits with 10 points.

Sophomore forward Ryan Gordon, the team's second leading scorer at 15.4 per game, was held to seven points, but did lead the squad with eight rebounds.
