Three Cavaliers land on KJCCC D-II Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced the results of the 2023-24 Men's Basketball All-Conference Team for Division II and the individual award winners earlier this week.  These awards and teams are voted on by the league's head coaches. 

Three members of the Johnson County Community College men's program earned all-conference recognition. Sophomore guard Massi Malterer and sophomore forward Kyler Mann were selected as first-team performers. Freshman forward Brandon Mann  was a third-team selection.

These three helped lead Johnson County to a 28-7 record, district championships and a berth to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. 

Malterer led the team in scoring averaging 16.5 points per game, which ranked fourth overall in the conference. He also tied for the team lead with 25 games scoring in double figures. Malterer topped 20+ points nine times, highlighted by a 30 effort in a win over North Arkansas and a career high 37-point night in a win over Allen. He also connected on 52.1 percent of his field goals attempts, sixth-best in the conference.  Malterer upped his scoring average in conference play to 18.1 per game and shot over 53 percent from the field. Three times during the season Mann was selected the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, earning the award in weeks 8, 14 and 16.

Mann was the team's second leading scorer and top rebounder averaging 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. He tied Malterer for the team lead in games with 10+ points with 25 and led JCCC with 12 multi-rebound games. He also led the team with 11 double-doubles. Mann's 8.7 rebound average ranked third in the conference and his 304 total rebounds were the most recorded in 2023-24. That total also ranks him 17th on JCCC season chart.  For his career, Mann tallied 516 total rebounds which ties for 12th all-time. He ranked ninth in the conference in scoring average. Three times during the season Malterer was selected the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week, earning the award in weeks one, three and four. 

Mann finished third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. He scored in double figures in 24 games and topped 10+ rebounds three times, recording three double-doubles. He tallied 193 total rebounds on the season which ranked seventh in the conference. He ranked 10th in the conference in scoring average and was fourth in field goal accuracy making 55.6 percent of his shots. In the 10th week of the season, Mann was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week.
