OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Southwestern Community College got a first-hand look why Johnson County Community College is leading the NJCAA in team batting. The Cavaliers pounded out 17 hits and batted .539 in a 16-1 romp over the Trojans yesterday. 

Five players had multiple-hit games, including three hits from freshman first baseman Vince Donato and sophomore second baseman Mason Hartman. Donato had two singles and home run to drive in three runs. Hartman also had two singles and a triple and three RBI. 

Freshman right fielder Derek Abeln also drove in three runs of two singles, and sophomore catcher Reid Briney had a single and a double and two RBI. 

Sophomore shortstop Chris Esposito had two singles and an RBI, and freshman DH Evan Bergman drove in two runs. 

Sophomore center fielder Anthony Amicangelo, who leads the nation with a .620 batting average, went 1-for-2 with run driven in. 

Freshman right-hander Jon Moll improved to 3-0 on the season allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts over four innings of work. 

Sophomore Anthony Jordan Shaw pitched the fifth and allowed one run one hit with a strikeout. 

Freshman right-hander Drew Garrett pitched a perfect sixth inning, strikeout out all three batters he faced, and freshman left-hander Colby Ring closed out the game, allowing no runs, one hit with a strikeout. 

Johnson County returns to Jayhawk Conference play today when they host Highland Community College for the first two games of the four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
