
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Three student-athletes from Johnson County Community College have been honored as 2024-25 Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team College Division by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Sophomore defenders Emily Crosby and Montana-Rose Currey of the women's soccer team were named to the first-team, and sophomore softball first baseman Aspen Burgardt was a second-team selection.
Crosby and Currey were defensive anchors for the Cavaliers women's soccer team. Crosby was a consensus All-American earning first-team by both the NJCAA and United Soccer Coaches. She also garnered Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and Region 6 Division II first-team selections and was voted KJCCC D-II Defensive Player of the Year.
Currey was tabbed as a second-team All-American by the NJCAA. She also was a second-team All-America selection her freshman year, making her just the second player in team history and first defender to be named All-American as a freshman and sophomore. Currey was also named All-KJCCC and Region 6 first-team twice and in 2023 was selected the KJCCC D-II Defensive Player of the Year. Currey also helped on the offensive end netting with five goals and five assists for 15 points in 2024 and five goals with one assist in 2023.
The two defensive standouts helped lead JCCC to a 19-1-4 record, a national runner-up finish, and a defense that ranked among the best in the country with 18 shutouts and a 0.41 goals-against average. In their two seasons, Crosby played a pivotal role in JCCC's combined 37-5-6 record, with 33 shutouts, securing two conference championships and back-to-back national championship game appearances.
Burgardt, who was the NJCAA D-II National Player of the Year her freshman year, was selected All-KJCCC and Region 6 D-II first-team as a sophomore. She batted .432 (57-for-132) while helping lead the Cavaliers to a Region 6 Championship and fifth-place finish at the NJCAA D-II World Series. Burgardt produced 24 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 29 walks, 45 runs and 48 RBI. She had 16 multiple-hit and 12 multiple-RBI games.
For her career Burgardt batted .472 (143-for-303) with 57 doubles, five triples, 31 home runs, 56 walks, 112 runs and 132 RBI. She had 41 multi-hit games, which ranks tied for 10th all-time at JCCC, and 37 multi-RBI games, the most ever in program history. She also owns the career records for doubles, extra base hits (93) and RBI. She ranks second all-time in homers, walks, sixth in batting average and seventh in runs.
Burgardt had a monster freshman year, batting .503 (86-for-171) with 33 doubles, three triples, 23 home runs, 67 runs and 84 RBI. Her 33 doubles, 23 home runs and 58 extra base hits set new season standards, and her 84 RBI were the second-most in a season at JCCC. Burgardt in addition to being named the national player of the year, she was also named MVP and Freshman of the Year in the conference, becoming the sixth player in KJCCC history and second in Division II to be selected for both awards in the same year.
The College Division at-large teams honored 20 student-athletes with three members of the first-team holding 4.0 GPAs. Crosby and Currey were two of those three. All total, seven of the 20-member had a 4.0 GPAs. The 13-member first-team had a 3.82 cumulative GPA.
Crosby will continue her career at Missouri Western State University. Currey will be attending High Point University and Burgardt signed with Washburn University.
