In addition to 12 NJCAA National Championships and 152 Region titles, Johnson County Community College has amassed 196 Kansas Jayhawk Conference titles. The Cavalier men’s basketball team, in just its third year of existence, won the school’s first conference crown in 1972. Coached by JCCC Hall of Famer Orville Gregory and led in scoring by Deon Kayhill (17.7 ppg), JCCC finished 23-9 overall. Kayhill also became the first athlete in school history to be selected a NJCAA All-American. The volleyball program claimed its first conference title in 1981. Since that season, the JCCC volleyball team has claimed 23 championships, more than any other team in the East Jayhawk Conference. The women’s cross country team is second 20 titles, and the women’s track team has the third most titles with 19. Twelve times in the program’s history the women's and men's cross country and track teams have captured the Triple Crown, winning the conference title in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during the same year. The women have captured seven triple crowns, and the men five. Both teams won three straight triple crowns from the fall of 1996 through the spring of 1999.
