No doubt the best front court player to grace the floor at JCCC, Tonya Baucom became the program’s third All-American following her sophomore season in 1991.  Baucom scored 551 points (17.2 ppg) and pulled 286 rebounds (8.9).  Baucom made an immediate impact her freshman year, scoring 468 points while finishing fourth in the country in field accuracy, hitting over 61 percent from the field.  Baucom was the second player to top 1,000 points in a career at JCCC.  She scored 1,019 points, an average of 16.2.  She also left as one of the all-time great rebounders, pulling down 562 over her two seasons, an average of 8.9 per game.  She also remains the most accurate shooter all-time, hitting .583 from the field.  She was a two-time team MVP at JCCC, and helped her team win a conference title, the last by JCCC women’s basketball team.  Baucom went on to an outstanding career at Southwest Missouri State University, where she helped the Lady Bear basketball team to a NCAA Final Four appearance in 1992.  That season, she finished third in the country in field goal accuracy with a SMSU record .658 mark.  She also earned all-conference honors and was named Sports Illustrated national women’s Player of the Week in the March 16, 1992 issue.  Baucom also garnered all-conference honors her senior season and closed out her career with a SMSU record .644 field goal accuracy mark.
