JCCC softball opens season with a sweep over Iowa Central

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team got its 2023 season off to a strong start with a double header sweep over Iowa Central on Sunday afternoon, winning 4-3 and 9-3. 

In the opener, Johnson County scored all four runs in the bottom of the third off a two-run double from outfielder Eve Morris and RBI singles from catcher Gaige Pinkerton and pitcher Jordan Harrison, who also earned a complete game victory. She allowed three runs, one earned with three strikeouts over seven innings. 

In the second game, designated player Grace Ramsey and first baseman Kate Ediger provided the big bats in the line-up. Ramsey was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and four driven in.  Ediger ripped two doubles and drove in four runs.

In the circle, Maggie McNalley earned the victory. The right-hander struck out 10 batters over six innings.  Deja Gardenhire pitched a perfect final innings to pick up the save. 

The Lady Cavaliers will host Southeast in a double header on Saturday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
