JCCC softball splits with Southeast

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team split a doubleheader against Southeast Community College at the JCCC Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Cavaliers claimed the first game 5-0 before falling to the Storm 8-5 in the second game. Johnson County is now 7-3 overall.

In the opener, Jordan Harrison was the star both in the circle and at the plate. The sophomore right-hander hurled a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while strikeout nine batters.  At the plate, Harrison belted a double that drove in two runs.

Catcher Gaige Pinkerton had a double, a walk, scored twice and drove in a run. Right fielder Taryn Burkhardt had an RBI single. First baseman Kate Ediger had a single, sacrifice fly and an RBI, and shortstop Toree Hoobler had a single, a double and scored a run. 

In the second game, Johnson County plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at 5-5 and send the game into extra innings, but the Southeast managed to get three runs across in the top of the eighth, then closed out the bottom of the inning for the 8-5 victory. 

Center fielder Lauren Roberts drove in two runs, and second baseman Kaylee Lamback, Ediger and Harrison each collected a single RBI. 

Johnson County will host No. 8-ranked Kirkwood on Tuesday, March 28 and then travel to Iola, Kan., on Thursday, March 30, to take on Allen to open D-II Kansas Jayhawk Conference play.
