JCCC women’s soccer opens national tournament pool play with a 4-0 win over Rock Valley

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The seventh-seeded Johnson County women's soccer team got off to a strong start to the 2023 NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. The Lady Cavaliers opened pool play with an impressive 4-0 victory over Rock Valley. They will face No. 2 seed Northwest Mississippi on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:30 CT. 

Freshman forward Jenna Knight got Johnson County on the board in fifth minute with her 10th goal on the season. 

Freshman forward Karsen Koehler made it 2-nil JCCC in the 21st minute with her sixth goal.

It remained 2-0 until late in the second half when JCCC put the match away with a goal by freshman defender Montana-Rose Curry in the 81st minute, assisted by sophomore forward Emma Le and another in the 83rd minute by freshman midfielder Brenely Cunningham.  It was Curry's fifth goal this year and for Cunningham it was her fourth score. 

Freshman goalkeeper Maddox Fergus picked up the win and shutout saving all three shots she faced. She now stands 7-1-0 with six shutouts.
