JCCC remains to No. 2 in the newest NJCAA D-II National Poll

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Boasting one of the nation's top offenses and defenses in the country, the Johnson County Community College women's soccer team remains the No. 2 ranked team in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Poll.  Last week, JCCC took over the No. 2 spot matching the highest ranking in program history.  JCCC was last ranked No. 2 in the 2010 D-I preseason poll.

Northwest Mississippi Community College remained at the top of poll. Phoenix College also remained at No. 3 followed by Heartland Community College, Holmes Community College, Jones College, Northeast Community College and Schoolcraft College. Scottsdale Community College moved up three spots to No. 9 while Iowa Lakes Community College fell back one to No. 10. 

The Lady Cavaliers (8-0-3) currently has the second highest scoring offense in the NJCAA, netting 66 goals, just one shy of top-ranked Northwest Mississippi. Sophomore forward Maya Wallace leads the team in scoring with eight goals and eight assists for 24 points. She ranks tied for fifth in the conference in goals scored, first in assists and third in points.  JCCC has four other players in the top in total points, Karsen Koehler (18 points/6th), Leticia Tessi (17 points, 7th), Tatum Bresette (16 points/T-8th) and Brecken Hoy (16 points/T-8th). 

Defensively the Lady Cavaliers have shutout nine straight opponents, setting a new team record. Their nine shutouts also lead the NJCAA.  The last goal given up by the Lady Cavaliers was at 77:33 in the second half of 2-2 tie at Phoenix College on August 22, a span of 822 minutes, 27 seconds. They have allowed only five goals all season which ties for fourth fewest in the NJCAA.

JCCC's two goalkeepers, sophomores Katie Stoskopf and Maddox Fergus, have combined for a goals against average of 0.45. Stoskopf leads the country with a GAA of 0.18 and she is tied for fifth with five shutouts. Fergus is ranked 15th with a GAA of 0.73 and tied for eighth with four shutouts.
