OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) announced its 2024 women's soccer awards and Johnson County had eight players named to the All-KJCCC Division II Women's Soccer Team. All eight were named to the first-team. Additionally, Emily Crosby was selected the Defensive Player of the Year for the conference and Jim Schwab was named the KJCCC D-II Coach of the Year.
Earning first team were sophomore defender Emily Crosby, sophomore defender Sydney Puetz, sophomore forward Karsen Koehler, sophomore forward Maya Wallace, sophomore midfielder Montana-Rose Currey, freshman midfielder Brecken Hoy, freshman midfielder Lily Marshall and sophomore goalkeeper Maddox Fergus.
These eight players have helped to lead JCCC to a 16-0-3 record, a conference title and a No. 2 national ranking. Puetz, Wallace, Currey and Fergus were all-conference selections last season as well.
For Schwab, this is the second time he has been selected Coach of the Year for the conference. He led Johnson County to a second-straight KJCCC D-II regular season title along with an NJCAA Region 6/9 postseason tournament title as the Lady Cavaliers are set to host the NJCAA Division 2 North Plains District Tournament Title game on Saturday afternoon against Iowa Lakes Community College. JCCC finished the regular season with a 14-0-3 record and have been ranked in the top four of the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer poll throughout the season and have held the No. 2 position since September 30. In KJCCC play this season, JCCC outscored opponents 49-0 and finished conference play with a perfect 8-0-0 record.
Crosby, along with Puetz, have been key shut down defender for a JCCC defense that registered a record 15 consecutive shutouts and ranks as the best in NJCAA D-II women's soccer. The Lady Cavaliers rank first nationally in goals against average at 0.32, first in shutouts with 16 and tied for first in fewest goals allowed with six. Crosby also helped with a goal in an 18-0 win over Southeast and Puetz has netted three goals and provided five assists for 11 points.
Koehler leads the KJCCC D-II and is tied for sixth nationally with 14 total assists, three which have led to game winning scores. She also has scored eight goals, two which have been game winners, giving her 30 total points, third-most on the team. She has produced multiple assists in four matches this season.
Wallace has been a major point producer for the Lady Cavaliers in 2024. She leads the team in points (41) and goals scored (18) and is tied for second in assists (9). She also leads the team with four game winning goals. Wallace also ranks among the top scorers in the conference and NJCAA. Her 41 points are second most in KJCCC D-II women's soccer and rank 20th nationally. She is third in the conference in goals scored and tied for 19th nationally. She has scored multiple goals in seven matches this year, which ties for seventh all-time for a season at JCCC. Wallace was selected as the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times, most of any player. She also was named the national Offensive Player of the Week following the opening week of the season.
Currey, who was also named the conference Defensive Player of the Year last year, has again been a key member in JCCC's defensive mix and a contributor on the offensive end as well. Currey play has helped produce the top defense in the country that was highlighted by a record 15 straight shutouts. Overall, the defense has allowed just six goals and has a goals against average of 0.32. Offensively, Currey has contributed five goals and five assists for 15 points. One of her assists led to the game winning goal against Southeast.
Hoy has also been a key playmaker on the offensive end for the Lady Cavaliers this fall. She ranks fourth on the team in points with 28, third in goals scored with 10 and fifth in assists with eight. Hoy has produced two multiple goal and two multiple assist games. In an 18-0 win over Southeast, she scored two goals and assisted on two others for a season-high six points.
Marshall ranks as the team's fifth leading scorer with 23 points off seven goals and nine assists, which tie for second on the team. She also ranks second with three of her seven goals serving as game winners. She also had one game winning assist and recorded multiple assists in two games.
Fergus has followed up a stellar rookie campaign with another impressive sophomore season. She stands 8-0-1 with six shutouts, five goals allowed, a 0.56 goals against average and a save percentage of .853. In the conference, she ranks tied for first in wins, second in save percentage, goals against average and fewest goals allowed, and third in shutouts. During the season, Fergus was selected the KJCCC D-II Goalkeeper of the Week four times, most of any keeper in the conference. Additionally, she was selected the NJCAA D-II Goalkeeper of the Week following the third week of the season.
