JCCC volleyball team puts on dominant performance at KCKCC Classic

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – After falling in five sets at Highland last Wednesday, the No. 3-ranked Johnson County volleyball team rallied with a dominant weekend performance at the Kansas City Kansas Classic.  JCCC did not lose a set, winning 3-0 in all four matches. 

On Friday, the Lady Cavaliers opened the classic by downing Southeast 25-22, 25-20, 25-7, followed by a sweep of Metropolitan 25-16, 25-20, 25-14. 

On Saturday, Johnson County quickly took care of Northeast with set wins of 28-8, 25-11 and 25-20. The capped the event with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-21 sweep over Central.  JCCC is now 12-3 on the season. 

Sophomore Ryleigh McBurney, last week's KJCCC Setter of the Week, tallied 163 assists and averaged 9.5 assists per set while helping Johnson County post a 4-1 record last week. She also tallied 29 digs and 11 aces, including six in a sweep over Northeast. McBurney currently ranks fourth in KJCCC D-II with 382 assists. 

Sophomore libero Maddie Steiner tallied 71 digs last week. She also tallied 12 aces, including ifve in a sweep over Central. Steiner currently ranks third in KJCCC D-II with 282 digs, and she leads the conference with a digs per set of 7.23. 

Freshman defensive specialist Addyson Mock also put up solid numbers last week, finishing with 44 digs. 

Freshman outside hitter Jadyn Troutman was the Cavaliers top hitter last week. She tallied 60 kills and hit .333

Freshman middle hitter Carley Spachman tallied 37 kills and hit .352, sophomore ouside hitter Alyssa Smith had 36 kills, freshman middle/right-side hitter Sydney Sample had 27 kills and hit .295 and sophomore middle hitter Lexi Lueger had 27 kills and hit .277. 

Johnson County will play five home matches this week. They host Coffeyville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m., and take on NEO A&M, Iowa Western, North Platte and Jefferson this weekend at the JCCC Challenge.
