JCCC volleyball begins quest to repeat as conference champs with sweep at KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4 ranked Johnson County volleyball team entered this season looking to repeat as conference champions for first time since 1998 and 1999, and on Wednesday night they got the ball rolling with a sweep at Kansas City Kansas.  The Cavaliers won 25-19, 25-16 and 25-20 to up their season record to 5-0 and set record to 18-1.

Sophomore outside/right side hitter Sarina Ulberg (Independence, Mo.) and freshman middle hitter Liana McGonigle (Sedgwick, Kan.) turned in a pair of key efforts in the victory. Ulberg hit a .600 clip and produced 10 kills, while McGonigle also tallied 10 kills and hit .444. 

Sophomore setter Sydney Fiatte (Shawnee, Kan.) and freshmen setter Wren VanCleave (Bonner Springs, Kan.) set up the offense with 14 and 11 assists respectively. Fiatte also recorded nine digs, tying for the team high with sophomore Emily Silvers (Lawrence, Kan.).

Johnson County will play their next four matches at home with two this Saturday. They take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at noon followed by Lincoln Land at 4 p.m.  On Wednesday, August 30, they host Hesston in their second conference match of the season.
