OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College volleyball team moved up two spots in the first national poll of the 2023 regular season.

The Cavaliers took over the No. 2 spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Poll that was released Monday afternoon. The move came after JCCC opened the season 7-0 with pair of wins over nationally ranked team. JCCC also nearly perfect in set victories, winning 15 of the 16 sets played to date.

That start coupled with defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Richard Bland College's four-set loss to St. Johns River State and No. 2 preseason Parkland College season opening four-set loss to Gulf Coast State College provided the opportunity to claim the No. 2 spot in this week's poll.

Last year's national runner-up and preseason No. 2 Scottsdale Community College takes over the No. 1 position. Gulf Coast State made the biggest jump moving from No. 15 to No. 3. Their only loss is to JCCC in the opening weekend. Kansas Jayhawk Conference rival Cowley College remained in the No. 5 spot.
