OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College freshmen guard Layla Scott and Jamya McPherson combined for 46 points to power the No. 2-ranked Lady Cavaliers to 99-49 victory over William Penn University JV Monday night at JCCC Gymnasium, extending their home court win streak to 79 straight games.
Scott, who ranks second in the country in made 3-point baskets, added four more to her season total on her way to a game-high 25 points. She was 7-of-14 shooting including her four treys and made 10 trips to the free line making seven. She also five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
McPherson also hit 7-of-14 shots and was 7-for-8 at the charity stripe to post 21 points. She also led the team with eight rebounds and dished out four assists.
Sophomore forward Yar Manyiel contributed 12 points, seven boards and four steals and sophomore guard Aryanna Grassity added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Sophomore guard Taliyah Scott also had an impressive line, again flirting with a triple-double. She finished with nine points, eight assists and seven rebounds before being taken out of the line-up early in the fourth quarter with the game in hand. She also had a game-high five steals.
Other key contributors were freshman guard Kara Stricklin (8 points), sophomore forward Aa'Mya Stacker (6 pints, 5 rebounds) and freshman forward Tamia Smith (4 points, 3 rebounds)
Junior forward Azori Edwards was the top performer for William Penn JV with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Johnson County (14-0) won't be back on the floor until Sunday, January 5 when they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on Southeast Community College. The Lady Cavaliers easily defeated the Bobcats on November 12, winning 104-44. They return home to host North Central Missouri College on Wednesday, January 8 at 5:30 p.m.
