JCCC improves to 8-0 on the season with 10-2 win at Crowder

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Sophomore catcher Noah Cook and freshman first baseman Alex Austin each belted a two-run home run to power the 15th-ranked Johnson County baseball team to a 10-2 win at Crowder College Thursday afternoon.   

Austin, who also had a RBI single, now leads the Kansas Jayhawk Conference with five homers on the season. His 13 total RBI lead the team and rank seventh in the conference. 

Rightfielder Jake Grauberger and second baseman Brevon Lee each drove in a run for the Cavaliers, and left fielder Quinton Hall had a single, two walks and scored three times. 

Right-hander Matt Ronnebaum improved the 3-0 on the season. He scattered three hits, allowed no runs and struck out six over his four innings of work.  On the season, Ronnebaum has struck out 15 batters in 10 innings, and has a ERA of 0.90. 

Left-hander Max Chapman took over in the fifth inning. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one run off three hits with two strikeouts. 

Right-hander Mikal Ashley hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and struck out three to up his season total to team-best 18 strikeouts. 

Left-hander Jay Long logged the final two innings. He allowed one run off two hits and struck out four batters. 

The Cavaliers host Rockhurst JV on Saturday with a seven-inning game at 1 p.m., followed by  nine-inning game.  JCCC will open conference play on Thursday,  March 11 with they host Labette Community College. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
