OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team opened Kansas Jayhawk Conference play at home with a pair of victories over Labette on Wednesday afternoon.  The Cavaliers began with a 13-2 win in the first game, followed by a 20-8 victory, improving  the No. 12-ranked team in country to 12-0 on the season. Technically, they were road games.  Due to rain in Parsons, the games were moved to JCCC and the Cavaliers served as the road team.

In the opener, Johnson County took control in the top of the third inning plating 10 runs. The Cardinals scored twice in the bottom half of the inning, but that is all the offense they could generate.

Lead-off hitter Jake Grauberger went 3-for-3 with two runs and four driven in. One of his hits was a triple.

Designated hitter Nick Iannantone and first baseman Alex Austin each belted a home run. Iannantone also had a single and drove in three, and Austin drove in two runs.

Third baseman Wyatt Morgan was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, and shortstop Isaiah Cohens ripped a double and a triple and scored three times.

Right-hander Matt Ronnebaum improved to 4-0 on the year with a complete-game victory. He allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits with five strikeouts. After his sold outing, Ronnebaum lowered his ERA to 0.60.

In the second game the Cavaliers hit at a .538 clip going 21-for-39. Eight of those 21 hits were home runs, and five were doubles.

Morgan and catcher Nate Stevens each belted two round trippers.  Morgan was 3-for-5, scored three times and drove in seven runs. His seven RBI tie the second-best game in program history.  He just recently had a six-RBI effort in a win over Rockhurst JV.

Stevens was 3-for-3 with three runs and four driven in.

Homers also came off the bats of Grauberger, Iannnantone, Austin, second baseman Anthony Slaughter. Grauberger, Austin and Slaughter also each drove in two runs.

Left fielder Quinton Hall had two singles, a double, scored four times and drove in one run.

Cohens hit two doubles, and Tyson Cheatham and Noah Steele each had a double.

JCCC's first two pitchers got roughed up a bit, allowing eight runs of nine hits over the first 3.2 innings, but right-hander Danny Trehey came in and shutdown the Cardinals' bats. He did not allow hit in 3.1 innings and struck out seven to pick up his second save of the season.

Johnson County and Labette will go at again Thursday with a twin-bill beginning at 1 p.m.
