Cavaliers’ offense clicks in sweep at Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 13-ranked Johnson County baseball team pounded out 25 hits, 10 for extra bases, walked 13 times and scored 30 runs while holding Neosho County to just four in the first two games a four-game conference series with the Panthers.  The Cavaliers opened with a 19-4 victory, followed by an 11-0 shutout in the second game.

Sophomore catcher Miken Miller was a one-man wrecking crew for Johnson County.  In the opener he ripped a two-run triple in the top of the first inning and belted a three-run home run over the right field fence in the third inning. In the second game he again had two extra base hits with an RBI triple in the third and a two-run blast in the seventh giving him eight RBI for the afternoon.

In the opener, second baseman and leadoff hitter Jake McClure was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBI. Outfielder Bo Shinkle was also 2-for-3 with two walks, three runs and three driven in. Outfielder Ryker Edwards drove in three and scored twice and shortstop Chris Mancinas had two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Right-hander Josiah Golden picked up the complete-game victory, allowing four runs, two hits, three walks with five strikeouts over five innings.

In the second game, third baseman Carter Kelly had three hits with a double, scored twice and drove in two, and first baseman Easton Roe picked up two hits including a two-run homer to pace the Cavaliers offense.

Right-hander Sam Nototny earned the complete-game shutout, scattering four hits while strikeout out eight over seventh innings.

Neosho County come to JCCC on Saturday for a twin bill to conclude the series. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
