Cavaliers rally for 13-9 win over Garden City in sub-regional opener

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team dug a big hole early, but manage to fight back for a 13-9 win over Garden City in the first round of the KJCCC East Sub-regional tournament yesterday. 

Alex Austin belted three home runs and drove in four, Quinton Hall had a homer and a triple with three RBI, Noah Cook had three hits and three RBI and Wyatt Morgan had a single and triple with two RBI to fuel the Cavaliers comeback. 

JCCC MVP Matt Ronnebaum, who has been the ace of the pitching staff this season, faced just 10 batters while giving up seven runs. Left-hander Jay Long took over and allowed just three hit and two runs with 10 strikeouts over the next eight innings to pick up his seventh win of the season. 

Johnson County will take on Fort Scott Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds defeated Butler 12-1 in their first round match up. The loser will face Butler at immediately following this game. The winner advances to the championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15.
