Cavaliers take all four games against Labette

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team completed a four-game sweep by winning the final two games Saturday at the JCCC Baseball Complex. The Cavaliers won the opener 16-3 and completed the sweep 10-0 shutout.  In the four game series, Johnson County outscored the Cardinals 56-to-7.

In the opener, six players drove in multiple runners led by designated hitter Nick Iannantone and catcher Jaxson Wentworth. Both recorded four RBI. Iannantone had a single, double and home run, and Wentworth ripped two doubles. 

First baseman Colin Brueggemann had three hits, including a home run to drive in two. Second baseman Blake Mozley left fielder Cooper Combs and right fielder Will Hudler each collected two RBI. 

Left-hander Trent Martin got the start and earned the victory. He logged four innings, allowing one run off two hits while striking out eight batters.  

In the second game, Combs went 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and four driven in. Mozley had a single and a sacrifice fly to drive in three and Brueggemann belted a home run in his fourth straight game to up his season league leading total to 19.  He had a huge week batting .550 (11-for-20) with three doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 runs scored and 13 driven in to help the Cavaliers go 5-0 on the week.   

On the bump, left-hander Max Chapman logged six innings, allowing just one single while striking out nine batters.  Left-hander Maverick Hanna closed out the final inning striking out two of the three hitters he faced. 

Johnson County (37-15) close out the regular season with a four-game conference series against Allen. The Red Devils come to JCCC on Thursday, May 5, then host the Cavaliers on Saturday, May 7.
