JCCC baseball propels into first place with sweep of Cowley

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranked Johnson County baseball team is sole possession of first place in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference East Division after taking the first two games of four-game series with Cowley, winning 9-4 and 11-10. The final two games of the series will be Saturday, April 22 in Arkansas City, Kan.

Johnson County moves to 39-7 overall and to 23-3 in the conference, while the Tigers fall 27-15 and 17-5. 

In the opener, sophomore left fielder Cooper Combs was a triple shy of a cycle while driving in three runs, and freshman center fielder Rhett Hendricks ripped a double and a homer to drive two to pace the Cavaliers offense. 

Left-hander Luc Fladda hurled a complete game, allowing four runs off seven hits with five strikeouts. He now stands 8-0 on the season with four complete game victories. 

In the second game, JCCC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead only have Cowley plate six runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead. The Cavaliers later matched Cowley with six runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore third baseman Jeremy Rader had the big bat for the Cavaliers, belting a three-run home run and a solo homer for four RBI. Sophomore second baseman Easton Elliot drove in three runs and DH Dagen Brewer was credited with two RBI.
