4th ranked Cavaliers complete sweep over Colby to advance to the Plains District Tournament in Wichita.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball team scored six unanswered runs on their way to a 6-1 victory, completing a sweep over Colby in the opening round of the Plains District playoffs.  With the sweep, the Cavaliers improved to 51-7 on the season, setting a new team mark for victories. The previous best of 50 was set in 2014.

Next up for Johnson County is the eight-team double-elimination Plains District Tournament, May 17-21 at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. The No. 2 seed Cavaliers will face No. 7 seed Seward County on Wednesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. (Tournament Bracket

Designated hitter Dagen Brewer continued to swing a hot bat, had two hits including a home run and three RBI to pace the Cavaliers offense. In the game 1 7-2 win over the Trojans, Brewer went 4-for-5 with a homer, three runs and four driven in.  Over the last seven games, he has hit .607 (17-for-28) with three doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI.

Catcher Shea McGahan has been even hotter over his last five games in the lineup. He is batting at a .722 clip (13-for-18) with three doubles, a triple, two homers and 16 RBI. In the series clinching win he had an RBI single. In the opener, he had as single, double, home run and three RBI. 

Left fielder Cooper Combs had a single and a double with two runs scored, and first baseman Ryan Callahan produced RBI single.

On the hill, right-hander Cole Koonce improved 13-1 on the season allowing just one run over 8.1 innings with six strikeouts. Right-hander John Chambers got the final two outs including a strikeout.
