Three JCCC pitchers honored by JUCO Baseball Blog

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Three pitchers on the 2023 Johnson County Community College baseball team have been named to the 2023  JUCO Baseball Blog All-America team. Sophomore left-hander Luc Fladda was selected to the First-Team and sophomore right-hander Gabe Nutter and freshman right-hander John Chambers earned Third-Team honors. 

Fladda and Nutter were feature starters for the Cavaliers, and Chambers served as the team' closer. They were key members on JCCC's pitching staff that helped the Cavaliers post a team record 56 wins and reached the JUCO World Series for the third time in program history. Earlier this season Fladda also was selected All-American by the NJCAA and ABCA/Rawlings Sporting Goods 

Fladda appeared in 18 games, 17 as a starter. He had a perfect record of 12-0 with 107 strikeouts in 102.0 innings, six complete games and an earned run average of 2.74. Fladda led the conference in innings pitched, ranked second in ERA, victories, strikeouts, and complete games. Nationally he ranked second in innings pitched, tied for third in victories and tied for 13th in strikeouts. His 12 victories tie for the second most in a season in team history and tied the record for fewest losses. Fladda also ranks second on the season chart for innings pitched, tied for third in strikeouts and set a team record for most games started.

In his first start Fladda hurled six innings of no-hit ball with 11 strikeouts to earn a 3-0 win over nationally ranked Crowder (2-11-23), That performance earned him KJCCC East Pitcher of the Week for week two. Three months later, he earned a nine-inning complete-game 11-2 victory over Cowley in the championship game, securing JCCC's third trip to the NJCAA World Series. 

Fladda came to JCCC after spending the 2022 season as a redshirt with the Oklahoma Sooners baseball program. 

Nutter appeared in 16 games, 15 as a starter, and posted a perfect record of 9-0 with 100 strikeouts in 73.0 innings pitched with an earned run average of 3.33. He also had one save. Nutter's 100 strikeouts ranked fourth in the conference and seventh on JCCC's season chart. His nine victories tie for 13th on JCCC season chart, tied for sixth in the conference and tied for 32nd in the NJCAA. He also tied a season record for fewest losses. Nutter topped 10+ strikeouts on three occasions which ties for fifth in a season. 

For his career, Nutter appeared in 36 games, 15 as a starter. He had a record of 13-1, with two saves, 147 strikeouts in 109.1 innings pitched with an earned run average of 3.05. He ranks tied for 17th in career wins, tied for 15th in fewest losses, tied for 29th in innings pitched and tied for fifth with three career games with 10+ strikeouts. 

Chambers appeared in a staff-high 21 games, and finished 4-0 with seven saves, 39 strikeouts in 39.0 innings pitched with an earned run average of 1.85. He held opposing hitters to an average of .150. Chambers tied for the league lead and tied for 10th in the NJCAA in saves. His seven saves tie for fifth on JCCC's season chart.
