Brewer and Stone selected All-American by the NJCAA and ABCA/Rawlings

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings announced their Division I All-America teams on Monday, and Johnson County sophomore first baseman Dagen Brewer and sophomore pitcher Brandon Stone were first-team selections. It is the third time in program history two players have been selected in the same season, but it is the first time JCCC has produced two on the first-team.

Earlier this season, both players were first-team NJCAA All-Region 6 and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference East Division selections. Brewer was also named MVP of the conference and Stone was the Pitcher of the Year.  Both players were instrumental in helping lead the Cavaliers to a number one ranking in the final NJCAA Poll with 53-13 record, while winning conference and region titles and sixth place finish at the 2024 NCAA D-I World Series.

The No. 9 ranked JUCO hitter by Dream Big Athletics for 2024, Brewer put together a tremendous campaign for Johnson County batting a team-best .422 (78-for-185) with 22 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, 42 extra base hits, 66 runs and 88 runs driven in. He led the conference in both extra base hits and RBI, ranked second in doubles and slugging percentage (.854), fourth in home runs, fifth in batting average and tied for eighth in hits.  Brewer produced 23 multiple-hit games highlighted by a five-hit, four-home run, nine-RBI performance in a win at Fort Scott. His four homers and nine RBI set new school records and tied the conference record for home runs and tied the third-best conference game RBI total ever. He also led the team with 26 multi-RBI games which rank as the second-most recorded in a season in program history. Brewer was honored as the East Division Player of the Week three times in 2024, earning the award in weeks six, seven and 14. Last season Brewer was selected as the East Jayhawk Conference Co-Freshman of the Year. He has committed to Pittsburg State University.

Stone not only had one of the best pitching seasons by a freshman in Johnson County history, but his numbers also rank him among the best in team history. The conference leader in strikeouts this season, Stone, who was selected as the No. 1 pitcher by Dream Big Athletics for 2024, mowed down a new program record 113 batters in 104 and one-third innings pitched. He finished14-1 with an ERA of 3.28. He also led the conference in victories and innings pitched and ranked fourth in ERA and WHIP (1.05). Nationally, he ranked for first in wins and innings pitched, tied for fifth in strikeouts and tied for 14th in WHIP. Stone was honored as the East Pitcher of the Week in week 11. He has committed to the University of South Carolina.
