Dominant pitching secure doubleheader sweep for Cavaliers

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Behind dominant pitching, the No. 17 Johnson County baseball team swept Allen in Thursday's doubleheader sweep in both team's Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener.

The Cavaliers shutout the Red Devils winning 4-0 and 10-0 while holding them to just eight combined hits over the two games.

In the opener, sophomore right-hander Josiah Golden improved to 4-1 on the season allowing just two singles with five strikeouts over five innings of work. Freshman right-hander Keston Holman struck out three of the four batters he faced to close out the game.

At the plate, Johnson County collected seven singles with freshman centerfielder Bo Shinkle and sophomore right fielder Ryker Edwards each driving in a run.

 The second games saw dominating performance in the bump from Sam Novotny. The sophomore right-hander held Allen to just one hit over five innings while striking out 10 batters.

Freshman right- hander Christian Bobzin logged the final three scoreless, allowing three hits with five strikeouts.

Shinkle led the offense with three hits including a double and a triple with one RBI. Multiple hits also came off the bats of sophomore second baseman Jake McClure, sophomore left fielder Jeremy Comer, Edwards. sophomore first baseman Easton Roe and freshman catcher Boston Bruce, who led the team with two RBI.

The two teams will hit the field again for a doubleheaders Saturday afternoon in Iola, Kan.
