No. 19 Johnson County softball splits series with No. 16 KCKCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 19-ranked Johnson County softball team (26-16/20-10) looked to move a step closer to capturing the D-II, Division A Kansas Jayhawk Conference title as they hosted No. 16 Kansas City Kansas (40-14/21-11) Saturday afternoon on May 7. 

The Lady Cavaliers dropped the opener 7-2 but managed to get a split in the series with a 5-0 victory in the second game. Johnson County can still win the conference title with a sweep at Independence (14-34/8-22) on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first game, Kansas City Kansas dropped four runs on the JCCC in the top of the second and added another run in the third and two in the fourth for a 7-0 lead. They were on cruise control until the bottom of the seventh when JCCC manage to plate two runs. 

Left fielder Jordan Diehl had the only RBI for JCCC in game one, had a single, double and scored in the second game.

Right fielder Katie Enneking also had a single and a double, drew a walk, scored and drove in two runs. She had a triple in the opener but the Lady Cavaliers were not able to push her across the plate. 

Designated player Allee Brattin and second baseman Nyah Brown also ripped doubles and scored for Johnson County. 

Right-hand pitcher Jordan Harrison held No. 16-ranked Kansas City Kansas scoreless for six innings, scattering four hits with five strikeouts to pick up her ninth victory on the season. She leads JCCC's pitching staff with 96 strikeouts.
