JCCC softball team opens conference play with a sweep over Allen

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County softball team took the first steps to repeating as conference champions by posting a doubleheader sweep over Allen Thursday, March 30 at Iola, Kan. The Lady Cavaliers opened with a 5-0 shutout, followed by a 10-3 victory. 

Catcher Gaige Pinkerton drove in two runs in the opener, ripping a double and single.

Shortstop Toree Hoobler tallied two singles and a double, scored twice and drove in a run, and DP Gracie Ramsey collected a single, a double and scored twice. 

Right fielder Tayrn Burkhardt had a single, a walk, scored and drove in a run, and third baseman Hannah Archdekin had an RBI single. 

Right-hander Jordan Harrison continued to dominate in the circle, allowed just two hits with five strikeouts to earn his six complete-game victory and seventh win against zero losses on the season. 

In the second game, Johnson County collected 16 hits, 12 by the first four hitters in the order.  At the top of the order Burkchardt was 4-for-5 with a double and a triple, scored twice and drove in a run. She was followed by Hoobler with a double, two singles, three runs and two RBI. Pinkerton was 2-for-3 with two runs and Archdekin belted a two-run homer run and had a pair of two-run singles to drive in a season-high six runs, tying the eighth-best RBI game in team history. It was also the most since Emily Fox drove in seven runs against Allen on March 15, 2019.

Right-hander Maggie McNally struck out season high 10 batters to pick up the complete-game victory. She allowed just three runs off five hits over her seven innings in the circle.

Johnson County travels to travels to the east side of Missouri for a pair of double headers against St. Louis Community College and St Charles Community College. They face St. Louis on Saturday, April 1 and St. Charles on Sunday, April 2.
