JCCC softball sweeps St. Louis, extends win streak to eight straight

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 7-ranked Johnson County softball team improved to 23-5 on the season with a series sweep over St. Louis on Tuesday afternoon at the JCCC Softball Complex. JCCC opened with a 5-0 shutout followed by a 9-1. It is the eight series sweep on the season for JCCC.

In the opener, freshman shortstop Jaylee Jefferson provided an RBI in the first inning and freshman DP Kaia Kordill drove in a run in the fourth to put JCCC up 2-0. 

In the bottom of the fifth freshman third baseman Aspen Burgardt belted a three-run home run to secure the victory for the Lady Cavaliers. 

Sophomore right-hander Maggie McNally had one her better efforts in the circle this season, scattering five hits over seven innings with a season-high eight strikeouts to earn the complete game shutout. 

Burgardt had the hot bat again the second game collected three hits in three at bats. She hit a two-run homer in the third inning and doubled in the first and fifth innings. 

Sophomore center fielder Eve Morris also provided a big blow in the fifth belting a three-run shot over the left field fence giving JCCC a 7-1 lead at the time.

Freshman second baseman Izzy Carter had two hits in the game, including a double, and drove in two runs and sophomore first baseman provided an RBI single. 

Freshman right-hander Jalin Lavers improved to 6-1 with a complete-game six inning victory. She allowed five hits and one unearned run with three strikeouts. 

Johnson County resumes conference play on Thursday with a double header at Fort Scott Community College. They return home to host Cloud County Community College on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
