Lady Cavaliers advance in NJCAA D-II World Series with a 7-3 victory over Central Alabama

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 10-seed Johnson County Community College softball team (46-10) advanced in the winner's side of the bracket at the NJCAA D-II World Series with a 7-3 victory over No. 15-seed Central Alabama Wednesday afternoon at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg. S.C. 

Sophomore pitcher Maggie McNally followed up her solid opening round complete-game win with an even better performance against the Trojan allowing just three runs, two earned off seven hits while strikeout out 10 batters. It is her second double-digit strikeout performance this season. Of the second hits she surrendered, only one went for extra bases. McNally is 16-4 on the season with 132 strikeouts. 

Central Alabama got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning, but JCCC tied the game in the bottom of the second when Eve Morris scored after a wild pitch.

The Trojans again led by a run after scoring in top of the third, but the Lady Cavaliers quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half to take the lead for good, 4-2.

Morris belted a shot to right field that caromed of the fence, allowing the round the bases for an inside-the-park two-run home run.  Kate Ediger followed with a solo bast to centerfield, her 18th of the season. 

Johnson County padded their lead with an unearned run in the fourth followed by a two-run single by Gracie Ramsey in the fifth.

The Lady Cavaliers will play the winner of No. 3-seed Murray State and No. 6-seed Kirkwood on Thursday, May 23, on the championship field at 4 p.m EST.
