Burgardt and Dee named KJCCC D-II Softball Player/Pitcher of the Week

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – A fast start to the season for NJCAA Division II No. 7-ranked Johnson County Community College softball team led to sophomore third baseman Aspen Burgardt and sophomore pitcher Brielle Dee to being selected the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for week three.

Burgardt, the reigning NJCAA D-II Player of the Year got her sophomore season off to a big start while helping lead the seventh-ranked Johnson County softball team to a 3-1 record at the Branson JUCO Jam. Burgardt batted .545 (6-for-11) with a double, two triples, two home runs, 10 runs scored six walks, and 12 RBI. In the season-opening 17-6 win over Missouri State-West Plains, she belted two triples, scored twice, and drove in two runs. A day later, she powered JCCC to a 26-8 drubbing of Mineral Area, going 3-for-5 with a double, two homers, five runs, and eight driven in, tying the single-game record at JCCC and fifth-most in conference history. She capped the tournament with three walks, two runs, and two RBI in a 15-2 win over North Idaho. She was also perfect in the field, registering 21 putouts, two assists, and turned one double play over the four-game weekend.

Dee was the winning pitcher in two of JCCC's three wins at the Branson JUCO Jam over the weekend. In the season-opening 17-6 win over Missouri State-West Plains, Dee struck out three batters over five innings and picked up the pitching victory in a 17-6 Cavalier win. In the final game of the event, the sophomore right-hander tossed her second complete game of the weekend and allowed just two hits, and two runs (one earned) while striking out two.
