Johnson County back to .500 with 5-0 win over Neosho County

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County women's soccer team put together its best offensive effort of the season so far, defeating Neosho County 5-0 on Monday at the JCCC Soccer Complex. The victory snapped a three-game skid, and evened the Lady Cavaliers record at 3-3 overall. 

The team also welcomed back sophomore midfielder Kayla Ambrose, JCCC's second leading scorer a year ago. She missed the first five games recovering from a off-season injury, and she made her presence felt in the first three minutes, feeding Lydia Bogeart with her first collegiate goal. 

It remained 1-nil Johnson County until the 39th minute. Freshman forward Riley Porter netted her first collegiate goal with the assist going to freshman Sierra Smith

Johnson County blew the game open with three scored in the final four minutes. Sophomore Morgan LaPlante scored her first goal of the season off a feed from freshman Brock Allen.to

One minute, 48 second later freshman Darrian Gordan made it 4-0 with a penalty kick goal, and with 25 seconds remaining, Porter scored her second goal of the match and season to close out the game at 5-0 

Sophomore Olivia Ways and freshman Reyna Espino combined to share the shutout. Ways played the first 66 minutes, registering four saves. Espino did not face a shot over the final 23 minutes. 

The Lady Cavaliers travel to El Dorado Wednesday night to face Butler (1-3), and return home to host Dodge City (0-4) on Saturday, April 24th at noon.
