Women’s soccer celebrated sophomore night with 6-0 win over Highland

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College women's soccer team extended its program, Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and Region 6 consecutive shutout streak to 15 straight with a 6-0 victory over Highland Community College Wednesday night at the JCCC Soccer Complex. With the victory, the Lady Cavaliers close out the regular season 14-0-3 and complete an undefeated conference season at 8-0-0, capturing the programs seventh conference title. 

On a night where 15 sophomores were honored, six of them either scored a goal or provided an assist in the match. However, the scoring was started in the second minute when two freshmen hooked up. 

Forward Lily Marshall scored her sixth goal of the season and earned her third game winner off a feed from midfielder Brecken Hoy. It was her sixth assist on the season.

The team's leaders in goals scored and assists made it 2-nil in the in the ninth minute. Sophomore forward Maya Wallace netted her 17th goal of the year with sophomore forward Karsen Koehler getting her 12th assist. Those two would hook up again for the final goal in the 48th minute upping their totals to 18 goals and 13 assists. Wallace currently ranks third in the conference in goals and Koehler is the conference assists leader. 

Sophomore defender Montana-Rose Currey extended the Lady Cavaliers lead to 3-0 with her fifth goal of the season. Hoy was credited with the assist, her second of the match, upping her season total to seven.

Sophomore midfielder Macy Malik, playing in just her second match, picked up her third goal right before the end of the first half with sophomore midfielder Lotta Meindl getting her sixth assist on the season. 

JCCC's fifth goal came just one minute, 54-seconds after the start of the second half when Wallace found sophomore forward Jenna Knight for a goal. It was her eighth on the year and 18th of her career. 

In the net, sophomore goalkeepers Maddox Fergus and Katie Stoskopf combined to get the shutout. Fergus started and got the victory, improving her record to 7-0-1 on the season and to 17-2-1 over her career.
