JCCC sweeps final volleyball player of the week honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The final Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference weekly honors for the 2020-21 volleyball season were announced earlier this week, and Johnson County swept all three. Sophomore Mikayla Powell was the Offensive Player of the Week. Sophomore Kallie Fenscke was the Setter of the Week and sophomore Makenzie Griffel was the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the third time Griffel has been selected, the second time for Powell and Fenscke. 

Powell tallied 43 kills and a hitting percentage of .607 over three victories last week, helping the 5th-ranked Lady Cavaliers win the NJCAA Region VI/District M D-II Championship. Powell tallied 27 kills in the championship, with an impressive kill percentage of .667. She now has 654 career kills, which ranks her 12th all-time at JCCC. Powell currently ranks second in the conference with a kill percentage of .365. 

Fenscke tallied 86 assists and averaged 7.8 assists-per-set over three victories last week, helping the 5th-ranked Lady Cavaliers win the NJCAA Region VI/District M D-II Championship. In the two-game championship, Fenscke had 26 assists against Coffeyville, and 27 in the title match against Kansas City Kansas. She now has 1,229 career assists, which places her 15th on JCCC all-time chart. She began the week with 33 assists in a five-set win at Cowley. 

Griffel tallied 45 digs over three victories last week, helping the 5th-ranked Lady Cavaliers win the NJCAA Region VI/District M D-II Championship. For the season, she has registered 433 total digs which ranks third in the Kansas Jayhawk D-II Conference. Her 4.76digs-per-set average ranks fifth. With each match, Griffel continues to move up the all-time charts at JCCC. Her 717 career digs have at No. 15 all-time.
