JCCC to play for volleyball national championship

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – For the fifth time in the team history, and third time under head coach Jennifer Ei, the Johnson County Community College volleyball team will be playing for the NJCAA Division II national championship. 

The Lady Cavaliers swept top-seeded Illinois Central 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 to advance to the title match, and will face No. 2 seed Parkland College Thursday night, April 15 at 6:30 CT. 

Sophomore right-side hitter Mikayla Powell led JCCC with 13 kills with a kill percentage of .346. Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Smith and sophomore outside hitter Gracie LaForge each posted eight kills. Smith led JCCC with 16 digs. 

Sophomore setter Kallie Fenscke and freshman setter Ryleigh McBurney had 20 and 18 assists respectively, and sophomore defensive specialist Makenzie Griffel had 10 digs.
