JCCC volleyball punches ticket to nationals

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College volleyball team is headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament.  The Lady Cavaliers swept Coffeyville Community (25-10, 25-21, 25-17) to win the NJCAA District B Championship, and punch their ticket to Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, site for this year's national tournament. The tournament will take place November 17-19.

Under the leadership of coach Jennifer Ei, the Lady Cavaliers will make their 11th national tournament appearance in 15 years, and the 19th all-time. With the two victories, Ei now has an all-time record of 25-4 in Region VI/District championship play. Johnson County is currently ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA with an overall record of 34-3. Coffeyville season ends with a mark of 26-10. 

Johnson County breezed through their opening match against Allen Community College on November 2, winning 25-18, 25-15, 25-15, to set up the championship match with Coffeyville. 

Sophomore Jadyn Troutman was the team's top hitter with 12 kills and a kill percentage of .360 in the championship match against the Red Ravens. She now has 364 kills on the season, which ranks sixth in the conference, and her kill percentage of .353 is the second-best. She also leads KJCCC D-II with 154 total blocks. 

Also reaching double figures in kills was freshman Isabella Flaska with 10. She also posted a kill percentage of .333.  This was Flaska's second match finishing in double digits.

Freshman Kylee Harris, JCCC's top hitter in the first round, recorded eight kills in the victory. 

Sophomore setter Lauren McClure posted her 34th match of the year with 10-plus assists, finishing with 32, and in the back sophomore Addyson Mock and freshman Syndey Fiatte led the way with 16 and 15 digs respectively.  Mock now has 605 digs on the season and 840 for her career.
