JCCC volleyball team earns AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.  The America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recently announced that a record number of volleyball programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for 2023-24. More that 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale to earn the award for their classroom excellence.  

The Johnson County Community College volleyball program comprised of 15 student-athletes, produced a team grade point average of 3.59. 

In addition to the AVCA recognition, 10 members of the team were recently recognized for academic excellence by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). First-team All-Academic honors with a 4.0 grade point average were presented to Sophia Ewy, Coral Netten, Emily Silvers and Lillie Sullivan. Second-team honors with a GPA between 3.80-3.99 went to Chloe Carlgren and Liana McGonigle and third-team with a GPA 3.60-3.79 went to Sydney Fiatte, Isabella Flaska, Mallory Pruitt and Kennedy Smalley.  Fiate and Silvers were also named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team College Division At-Large team.
