JCCC sweeps KJCCC D-II Volleyball weekly awards

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Three members of the Johnson County Community College volleyball team were recognized by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference after a sweep over cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas Community College last Wednesday to open conference play. 

Sophomore outside/right side hitter Kennedy Smalley was named the KJCCC D-II Offensive Player of the Week, freshman setter Taylin Stallbaumer was named Setter of the Week and freshman defensive specialist/outside hitter Carlie Martin was named the Defensive Player of Week for week on the season.

Smalley tallied a season-high 14 kills and hit .300 against the Lady Blue Devils. She also recorded 12 digs to post her second double-double on the season. Through five matches, Smalley has topped double digits in kills three times and has a kill-per-set average of 2.94, which ranks eighth in the conference. 

Stallbaumer is off to an impressive start to her collegiate career, earning her second straight KJCCC D-II setter of the week honor. This week, Stallbaumer recorded a season-high 33 assists to average 11.0 assists-per-set along with two blocks and three digs in the sweep over KCKCC. She currently ranks fourth in total assists with 141 and third with an assists-per-set average of 8.29

Martin topped double digits in digs for a fifth straight match by recording 16 in the 3-0 win Wednesday evening.  Her 16 total assists are the second most recorded in a match this season, and most in a three-set match. She ranks seventh in the conference with a digs-per-set average of 4.29.
