Second ranked Lady Cavaliers extend win streak to 13 straight

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team improved to 13-0 on the season Friday afternoon with a pair of wins over Des Moines Area Community College and Lincoln Land Community College at the JCCC Gymnasium.

The Lady Cavaliers began the afternoon with a 3-1 victory (25-13, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22) over Des Moines Area and capped the day with 3-0 win (25-10, 25-14, 25-17) over Lincoln Land. 

Sophomore hitters Kennedy Smally, Tori Valentine and Bella Hedke put up some solid numbers against DMACC. Smalley led the way with 16 kills, to go along with 26 digs and seven aces, which tie for the third most in a match in team history. Valentine and Hedke each tallied 14 kills. 

Freshman setter Taylin Stallbaumer, the reigning NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week, matched her career with 45 assists. She also. Had 12 digs, three aces and three kills.

Freshman defensive specialist Carlie Martin, a two-time KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week selection, led the team with 32 digs. 

Against Lincoln Land, Valentine was top kill producer with seven, followed by sophomore Coral Netten with six and freshman Rilyn Sommer with five. Sommer produced the team's top kill percentage at .714. 

Stallbaumer led the offense with 24 assists and Martin tallied 16 digs.

Johnson County will return to conference play on Wednesday, September 18, when they host Allen Community College at 6 p.m.
