OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Labette with wins of 11-3 and 8-2 on Thursday at the JCCC Baseball Complex. The 12th-ranked Cavaliers now stand 14-0 and 4-0 in conference play.
In the opener, Labette took an early lead scoring twice in the top of the first innings, but in the bottom of the second the Cavalier plated three to take the lead, and in the fifth scored six runs to put the game away
Right fielder Jake Grauberger, center fielder Jackson Galloway and first baseman Alex Austin each drove in two runs. Designated hitter Nick Iannantone, catcher Noah Cook, third baseman Anthony Slaughter and infielder Davis Blair each contributed one RBI. Cook was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4 with a double.
Left-hander Jay Long improved to 2-0 logging five innings. He allowed four hits, two earned runs with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Johnson County never trailed, scoring three in the third, one fifth and four in the eighth. Both Labette runs came in the top of the fourth.
Austin collected three hits, including a double, scored and drove in a run. Galloway belted a solo home run, and shortstop Isaiah Cohens had a single and drove in two runs.
Catcher Nate Stevens, left fielder Brayden Sites, Blair and utility player Brevon Lee each were credited with an RBI. Iannanonte had two hits, including a double, and scored twice.
Right-hander Rene Ramos got the start and his third victory of teh season. He allowed two runs and struck out five in the first 3.1 innings of the game.
Left-hander CC Crain took the hill for the next 3.2 innings. He allowed two hits, no runs and struck out four.
Right-handers Grant Garza and Jack Thornhill kept the Cardinal hitters in check the final two innings .
Johnson County will look to remain perfect when the host Dawson Community College Tuesday, March 16 in a nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
