OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College baseball team continued its record-setting start to the 2021 season, defeating Metropolitan Community College 10-2 at Urban Youth Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The seventh-ranked Cavaliers jumped out early on the Wolves starting pitcher, plating five runs in the top of the first inning and that enough to keep the JCCC perfect on the season at 20-0.

Leftfielder Quinton Hall, a first-team All-American by JUCO Baseball Blog last season, led the offense with a single and a triple and three RBI.  Hall now is batting .392 with 21 runs driven for the season.

Centerfielder Jackson Galloway and designated hitter Nick Iannantone each had a single and double while extending their current hitting streaks.  Galloway has collected hit in 19 straight games, while Iannantone upped his streak to 11 games. Galloway also had two walks and scored four times.

Galloway is batting .469 and leads the Cavaliers in runs scored with 33.  Iannantone is hitting at a .492 clip and is the team leader in hits (32), doubles (10) and is second in RBI (27).

The Cavaliers offense also got two RBI each off the bats of outfielder Bryce Mitchell and third baseman Wyatt Morgan, and first baseman Alex Austin drove in one run to up his season RBI total to a team-best 28.

Second-baseball Brevon Lee, the KJCCC player of the week last week, drove in a run with a single, and extended his current hitting streak to eight straight games.

Right-hander Jack Thornhill, left-hander Max Chapman and right-hander Danny Trehey each logged three innings. Thornhill got the start and picked up his first win of the season. He walked three and gave up two runs, but did not allow hit.

Chapman allowed a hit and struck out six batters, and Trehey gave up a hit and struck out five to secure his league-leading fifth save.

The Cavaliers quickly turn around for a four-game series with the Baker University junior varsity beginning today with a double-header in Baldwin, Kan.  The two teams close out the series at JCCC on Saturday, March 27, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
