Cavaliers complete series sweep over Cowley

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 6-ranekd Johnson County baseball team completed a four-game series sweep over Cowley Saturday in dominating fashion, winning both games by the score of 9-0. This was the first series win over Cowley since the 1999 season, and first series sweep since 1989.

The Cavaliers are now in the driver's seat to win the conference championship, leading the second-place Tigers by four games with just four conference games remaining. One victory in the series against Labette will secure JCCC its 11th conference title. 

In the opener, Johnson County scored five runs in the top of the third to take control, then added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. 

First baseman Ryan Callahan belted a two-run homer run and scored three times. Shortstop Dylan Hufft went 3-for-4 with two RBI and DH Dagen Brewer had two singles and three RBI. 

On the hill, left-hander Ty Blecha pithced a complete game, allowing just four hits, two walks with two strikeouts to up his season mark to 6-0 

In the second game, right-hander Gabe Nutter allowed just one hit over seven innings and struck out seven batters to earn his seventh victory of the season. Left-hander Michael Infranca closed out the game with a perfect final two innings of work. 

At the plate, seven different Cavaliers drove in a run. Right fielder Brayden Luikart drove in two with a single and two doubles. Callahan had a single and double to drive in run. Third baseman Jeremy Rader went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Brewer had two singles, a double and scored twice.

Also driving in a run ere left fielder Cooper Combs, center fielder Rhett Hendricks, catcher Kyle Hepburn and second baseman Easton Elliot.

Johnson County now stands 41-7 and 25-3 in conference play. They host Metropolitan on Tuesday, April 25 and start a four-game home-and-home series with Baker University on Thursday, April 27.
