No. 4 Cavaliers take first two games against Labette

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Johnson County baseball team put on hitting clinic on Thrusday, winning 10-2 and 25-7 to take the first two games of the four-game series with Labette.

Catcher Shea McGahan established new personal game highs with four hits and five RBI to lead the Cavaliers. McGahan homered in the second, singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and singled in the seventh. 

Third baseman Jeremy Rader collected three hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in two runs. 

The Cavaliers plated four runs in the top of the sixth innings. Center fielder Rhett Hendricks had a two-run single, and shortstop Dylan Hufft and McGahan drove in a run. 

Left-hander Luc Fladda got the start and victory. He went four innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out four.

In the second game, Johnson County plated 25 runs on 25 hits which included seven home runs, two off the bat of outfielder Cooper Combs. The sophomore left fielder also had a single, scored three times and drove in four runs. 

Entering the bottom of the third, the Cavaliers lead 5-1, but the Cardinals scored five time to take one run lead. It was short-lived as JCCC scored four in the fourth, three in in the fifth then put the game away plating 11 runs in the top of the ninth fueled by a grand slam off the bats of first baseman Nicholas Sall and infielder Jason Lazo.

Second baseman Easton Elliot went 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Right fielder Brayden Luikart had three singles, scored twice and drove in four and infielder Blake Martin and DH Dagen Brewer each drove in two runs.

Right-hander Cole Koonce picked his 12th victory of the season despite not having his best stuff. He gave up two home runs and six total runs over his four innings on the hill. Left-hander Michael Infranca and right-handers Caleb Anderson and John Harrick shut down the Labette bats the final five frames, allowing just one hit and a run.

Johnson County closes out its regular season at home on Saturday with double-header against the Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
