OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 8-ranked Johnson County baseball team posted a pair of one-run victories to win the season series against Fort Scott on Saturday afternoon at the JCCC Baseball Complex.  The Cavaliers blew a 10-run lead in the opener but prevailed 16-15, the capped the series with a 7-6 win to improve to 21-7 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

Fort Scott jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first and three in the second. The Cavaliers tied it up in the bottom of the second and took control with eight in the third and two more in the fourth.  But the Greyhounds bounced right back with a two in the fifth and their own eight run inning in the sixth to tie the game 15-15.

Sophomore first baseman/DH Dagen Brewer continued his hot hitting going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three driven in.

Sophomore catcher/DH Kyle Hepburn drove in three runs with a home run in the third, and sophomore third baseman Jordan Black hit a two-run homer, walked twice, scored three times, and drove in three.

Left fielder Jake McClure and freshman shortstop Maddux Fleck each collected two hits and RBI in the victory.

On the bump, Austin Berggren earned the victory. The sophomore right-hander gave up two hits and one run over one and one-third innings, striking out two batters.

Like the opener, Fort Scott took the early lead over the Cavaliers in final game, plating four runs in the top of the third, but Cavaliers quickly erased that deficit with a six-run bottom half the innings.

After the Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the fourth, Hepburn singled home freshman second baseman Jack Mosh for the go-ahead run.  He also picked up an RBI in the third inning after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Mosh was the team's top hitter going 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Black picked up two more RBIs in the game and Brewer, freshman catcher/outfielder Mikan Miller and freshman first baseman/DH Easton Roe each drove in a run.

Freshman right-hander Sam Novotny earned the win for the Cavaliers, allowing just one hit with a strikeout over one and one-third innings. Sophomore right-hander Landon Fulk picked up the save scattering three hits over the final one and two-thirds innings. Prior to Novotny taking the hill, sophomore right-hander Drew Norris three innings of no-run ball for the Cavaliers in relief, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.
