WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 1-ranked Johnson County Community College baseball cleared the first step in their quest to repeat as Region 6 Tournament champions, defeating No. 8 seed Butler Community College 9-3 at Eck Stadium at Wichita State University.
The Cavaliers scored runs before the Grizzlies got on the board. JCCC scored two in the third, four in the fourth and sealed the win with three more in the seventh.
Johnson County collected 13 hits on the day, seven for extra bases. Ryker Edwards accounted for two of them with a double and a triple, scoring both times on base.
Miken Miller drove in three runs with a single and a double. Jack Mosh went 3-for-4, all singles, and drove in two runs and Jesse Tisdell also collected three hits and scored twice.
Ryan Borberg got the start on the hill for the Cavaliers. The right-hander allowed three hits, two runs, four walks over four innings and struck out five batters.
Right-hand reliever John Chambers logged the final five inning, allowing one run off five hits with two strikeouts to pick up the victory.
Johnson County (49-10) will face cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas (47-10) tonight at 7 p.m.
