OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College Golden Girls dance team recently attended the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 5-9.  JCCC competed in both the Open Jazz Division, which fielded teams from 2-year colleges and NCAA D-III universities,  as well as the Junior College Hip-Hop Division.

In the Open Jazz Division, coach Amy Sellers' squad placed runner-up in the finals on Friday, April 7. Per tradition of the competition, the Golden Girls posed with their runner-up trophy on the beach that afternoon.

To reach the finals on Friday, the Golden Girls had to finish third or better out of six teams. JCCC posted a score of 89.4571 points for second place and advance to the finals. They were able to increase their score to 91.8286 to come in second place, missing the championship trophy by one point.

The Golden Girls jazz team routine was given the Innovative Choreography Award, which was choreographed by Kristen Burton.

In the Junior College Hip-Hop Division, the Golden Girls finished the prelims in second place and advance to the finals. In the finals, the scores between second and fifth place were all within hundredths of a point, and JCCC was able to hold onto their second-place finishing.
